Around the world, COVID-19 vaccination programmes are already in motion. After all, vaccination puts us a step closer in regaining normalcy and achieving cluster immunity to curb the spread. But this raises a concern: is it safe for people who have been diagnosed with cancer to get vaccinated?
COVID-19 vaccine trials have shown that the vaccines have similar efficacy and safety profile in people with some underlying medical conditions and in those without comorbidities1. In fact, the Ministry of Health recommends people with cancer to receive their COVID-19 vaccination under the National Immunisation Programme (PICK), as long as they have conducted a pre-vaccination assessment with their doctors2.
However, the situation for every person may differ. Therefore, if you have any doubts, it is best to discuss the risks and benefits of the COVID-19 vaccination with your doctor to get their advice3.
